5G - A FUTURE PLATFORM

There is a lot of press and interest around 5G. Yes, speeds will be higher, but 5G will also be a platform for advanced services like remote surgery, autonomous vehicles and smart connected cities. These new services will take advantage of 5G and distributed cloud capabilities at the network edge.

Here interesting opportunities arise, and complex challenges need to be solved. We see a mix of small and large companies developing building blocks to create new services and manage the underlying platform. Different IoT applications will be increasingly important, including e.g. manufacturing & transportation.

There is a range of different technologies needed and some key examples are:

  • Machine learning and AI
  • Visualization
  • Data mining
  • Software components for new services – IoT & people
